Hi Alan,

That is correct, linked files are not supported yet in Docs. We started Docs with providing great PDF support and are now extending it to fully support Revit and AutoCAD files. No need to worry though, the work on supporting  linked Revit files is already in progress and will be available shortly. More updates to come in our upcoming releases, stay tuned.

Thanks,

Ilai

HI Rotbaein

That's a problem we are working on a live project and was advised by Autodesk team that Autodesk Docs was the best solution for our Project. This is very disappointing.

Regards

Alan

Hi Alan,

I fully understand and apologize for the temporary inconvenience. I would like to clarify that Revit files are supported in Docs, it's the linkage between them which is not there yet and will be shortly. I know being able to view the entire model with the linked files is critical and we will close this gap ASAP.

Thanks,

Ilai

If you are working with Revit, you are working with links.

Therefore to say Revit Files are supported, is in my opinion just missleading and a wrong sentence.

But I'm looking forward...

Does this go for AutocAD xrefs as well? As this is equally important (clients commonly deliver still cad files with xrefs and this is the start of your document management)

Hello Mark,

Yes, this does apply to AutoCAD files with Xref’s. Our development team is aware of this and the work on supporting link and xref’s are in progress and will be available soon.

Thank you and have a great day!!!

I realise this is probably slightly less than second best but already inserted geometry is brought across with the Revit project. So inserted rather than linked DWG geometry (for example) can be seen in Docs and is selectable as one compact lump of geometry.

In Revit linking CAD files are always kind of importing. I just tested your workaround and it works also with linked files.

But I don’t recommend to import/link DWG's in your Project directly at all.

Hi all,

As of our latest Docs release (April 27th), linked Revit files and Xrefs are now supported in BIM 360 Docs. Check out the release notes for more information. Thank you for your feedback and I hope you'll continue to enjoy BIM 360 Docs.

Thanks,

I'll test it today! It sounds like an awesome feature.

Well test 01: Xrefs is a part succes. It seems to overwrite files I upload to plans which arent related and I suspect it happens because of the automatic generation of the document name (seems to auto name: 2D view / 3D view / Layout 1).

Anyone else have this problem?

Hi @kalvin1,

Could you please elaborate your test steps?

  • Which file type do you use? Revit or DWG?
  • Which folder do you upload to? Plans or Project Files?
  • Any error message or snapshot after the linked file upload?

Thanks and best regards,

Hi Ilai,

Is there any news on BIM360 and if it can now handle ACAD XREFS and Revit references Links?

We would like to have all our Project model data on BIM360.

  • Autocad Drawings (Layout sheets with viewports) which link the Autocad Xrefs
  • PDF prints
  • Autocad xrefs
  • Civil 3D models which work with data shortcuts
  • Native Revit models and there respective Autocad Links and XREFS.
  • Navisworks modellen NWF, NWC & NWD files.

We are starting very soon on a fairly large project and would really like to know if BIM360 is an option for us so if anyway out there has any experience with the above, I would love to hear from you.

Thanks.
