I guess I was looking for tutorials for the examples they provided.  They are cached and I have no clue how to see the attributes.

Oh WOW...totally different than I expected.

So there's no work flow to export to ABC for rendering in V-Ray?

Every time I try exporting it in the Bifrost graph it says"Can not draw an object with no points".

Message 6 of 18

Go with VDB vray can render them fine.

Wasn't sure what that was.  I will try it.

The .vdb didn't even write a file.

For geometry, you can output to Alembic (write_alembic node), for volumes to VDB (write_openVDB node). Make sure to connect the output of the write_* node to a graph output, otherwise it will not get evaluated!

Still won't write a file, of either format...

Shame there is no V-Ray support for this...

I am trying to export the sand example.  Just to see how it renders in V-Ray...looks like it is a NO GO

Then you’re probably trying to output points, not a mesh nor a volume. Bifrost should be able to write openVDB points, so attach the object to the points input of the write_openVDB node.

I don’t know if Vray supports openVDB points though. Check the Bifrost docs for the other file output nodes.

As this is the first version of Bifrost, only Arnold is supporting direct rendering of Bifrost shapes, but this will

probably change in  the future!

Edit: you can still convert the points to a level set, to create either a mesh or volume so you can output with Alembic or openVDB volume.

Attached an example scene writing an openVDB points file. Houdini can read this file perfectly fine and extract the points with all point properties.

If V-ray can render the points directly is something else.

Thanks for the example.  I'll see if it is like what I just tried.  It is writing a file but its basically empty.

Is the sand example a point or a volume?  I've tried both and got nothing.

Also it is asking for a "frame"  Shouldn't it be sending out a file with everything baked into it and not frames?

When I'm using this graph, the vdv files are not empty, they do contain the points. Make sure to check the files with a tool which supports openVDB points!! So not "just" openVDB volumes.

As far as I know, Bifrost doesn't support sequences to VDB or Alembic yet, just single frame files.

I guess it's planned for a future release.

The sand example outputs particles/points.

I can't even get Arnold to render a particle sim.....in this new graph deal...

Arnold is working.  Had to be updated.
