modulate motion field using particle attributes

Is it possible to a bifrost motion field using a particle attribute. To be clear, I'm talking about legacy bifrost liquid simulation not the node graph. I would like to apply turbulence to fast moving portions of my liquid sim to break up stringy tendrils of water. It seems like this would be the approach to use for that type of thing, but I can't find a way to do it.
