BiFrost/Arnold Render Issue

Anonymous

Dear Forumers,

I have a 380 frame scene with bifrost liquid and foam and some nparticles and various geometry.

I want to render frames 210-380 to check something.

My problem is every single frame thats rendered seems to need to be stepped up frame by frame from frame 1!!!

Needless to say this is slowing down my rendering painfully.

How can I fix this?

Thanks

Nick

Make sure that all simulations are cached.

Are you using the cache node in read mode?

Or do you have written out a VDB?

i have not written out VDB.

i have clicked on "compute and cache to disk" from the bifrost menu

Are you using the old Bifrost?

Follow this tutorial.

"stepped up frame by frame from frame 1" I'm pretty sure that means your simulation is not cached to disk.Make sure that all simulation are reading from the disk drive and not simulating for each frame. If you did it right you should be able to skip frames and scrub the time line seeing the simulation. If you can't scrub the time line than you didn't cache (not scratch cache) to disk. Also nparticle use ncahce. Make sure that's reading from disk.

no the thing is i can scrub both the particles and bifrost. they are cached. thats the weird problem!

It sounds like a rendering issue. Did you set your frame range in the render settings? Also you can offset the cache files to start at frame 1 (I don't know it that would help). But for the most part, rendering water, foam, and nparticles is pretty heavy on the renderer. What kind of system are you running? Is it possible to separate the Bifrost and nparticles with render layers?

It happens whether its a frame range or a single frame.

Dunno why you suggesting offsetting cache files. And they start at frame 1 anyway.

I have a very good system and need to render them all together anyway as the nparticles are within the bifrost fluid so need to be rendered as refracted.

Currently I'm having another CRITICAL issue anyway:

so its all academic at this point 😞

It's really kind of vague the issues your having.I would check your render log if your have rendering issue. I ran into a problem with particle render in transparent water but that was a couple years ago.(min pixel width fixed that) Can you give me more information about your scene. Maybe send an image or a scene file?

i'm sorry. don't know how to be more specific. thanks for trying to help, i'll attach scene file here. the major issue is the hanging atm anyway.

Did you ever get a solution to this? I am having a problem very similar to what you described
