Introducing the new security feature: Two-Factor Authentication process

We consider the Autodesk Account as your Creation haven – a place to explore, learn and create. To make the most out of your experience, it’s important to keep your haven protected and secure by making sure your account information is safely guarded.

Hopefully you’ve already created a unique and hard-to-crack password for your account. To increase the security even more, you can enable the new safety feature we just introduced; the Two Step Verification process, also known as Two-Factor Authentication that can be added on top of the standard secure password authentication process.

What is the Two-Factor Authentication?

We know that when you create and enter your account username and password, it verifies that you are who you say you are, i.e. the legitimate owner of account, before allowing access. The Two-Factor Authentication adds a second layer of authentication security to your Autodesk account, designed to prevent anyone else from accessing or using your account even if they have your password.

How does it work?

When you set up the two step authentication process, you register trusted devices that you can receive the 4-digit verification code from. There are four ways that you can receive the Two-Factor Authentication codes:

  1. Voice
  2. SMS
  3. Authenticator app
  4. Email

After enabling the Two-Step Authentication, any time you sign in to your Autodesk account, you will be prompted to enter your login password and the authentication code will then be sent to your selected device. If the code is entered successfully, the account is then allowed to complete the login process.

  1. Sign in to your Autodesk account
  2. Under the Profile tab, select Security Settings
  3. Click on the ‘Set Up’ button for 2 Step Verification and follow the onscreen instructions.
  4. For more information, go to the Two-Factor Authentication FAQ page

Should I use Two-Factor Authentication?

Your Autodesk login information is the key to many things you do with Autodesk; accessing your account details, updating passwords, accessing your data/project on Autodesk products or services, keeping up-to-date with the latest product information, or making changes or purchases with your account.

The Two-Factor Authentication is a feature you can use to keep your account and personal information as secure as possible. While this new security feature is available to all Autodesk account holders, you are not required to enable the feature in order to access your account.

Interesting note:
The Two-Factor Authentication security method was coincidentally already under development when a Forum member included the idea in the Autodesk Community Ideas page, receiving multiple votes. This shows the importance of the 2-step security layer to our customers. (If you have any additional helpful ideas for improvement, please don’t forget to add your ideas to the Ideas Page on the Autodesk Community).

What if I don’t have my authentication device with me?

If you don’t have access to the primary device that was set up to receive the verification code, you can choose to have the code delivered to you via alternative methods previously set on your account setting.

Can I disable the Two-Step Authentication after turning it on?

Yes. We don’t recommend disabling Two-Step Authentication because by turning off this extra layer of security, you will only be asked for your password when you sign in-- making your account easily accessible by someone who knows your password. But if you believe it necessary, you can disable the feature by going to your setup page.
