How to Use Place Pivot Surface (PPS) in 3Ds Max 2017

Hello Everybody,

The following example demonstrates how to use the new PPS (Place Pivot Surface) feature in 3ds Max 2017. You can select this feature from the menu, which opens when you right click your mouse. It enables you to specify pivot points of the objects in your scene rapidly by basing them on surfaces of your objects. This feature, which was not available in previous versions, enables you to perform Active Pivot controls as easily as possible.

Let’s see how PPS (Place Pivot Surface) is used on a simple example;

  1. First, draw a box in you scene.

2. After you create the box, right click your mouse and select Place Pivot Surface from the pop-up menu.

3. After you select PPS (Place Pivot Surface) you will see 2 pivot points and a menu on the box. One of these pivot points is the fixed pivot point and the other is the variable pivot point. The third option is the menu that will enable you to save the pivot point after you specify it.

4. Complete the process by clicking OK after you specify your pivot point. In this way you specify the new pivot point of your object. That is all!

See you 🙂
