3D drawing in model space disappears when I zoom in on it?

Currently I'm modeling a Gazebo in AutoCAD 3D model space for a class I'm taking currently, and neither my prof or I can figure out what why when I zoom in on a detail (a roof joist--I'm trying to model an angled 2x4), the who drawing disappears. I'm not zooming in a different place--it should definitely be showing the detail. I've tried restarting the program, restarting my computer, regen, and clearing layers. The only way that I'm able to zoom in on the detail I need is to copy that section of the drawing into another blank .dwg, which becomes inconvenient and tedious. How can I edit it all it all in the same file?

Please note I'm fairly novice to both AutoCAD and AutoCAD 3D!

Check to make sure you are in parallel mode rather than perspective. Right click the viewcube in the upper right corner of model space to check. If you are in perspective mode, at some point when you zoom in the model disappears.

Good Luck
