This is a case study presentation on how the use of federated, integrated and automated design workflows have transformed the design process on one of Boston’s most critical intermodal reconstruction projects, the Mattapan Station. The strategic use of Infraworks, Civil3D, Revit and the connected Esri platform are providing the critical platform for true 3D track design and infrastructure design with connected teams, tools, and workflows to optimize design processes and decision making.
The use of this approach has led to early positive results with early identification of interface issues between rail design, rail systems, structures, site, and station architecture as well as subsurface utilities. Not only did this approach bring speed and quality improvements as compared to their traditional design efforts but has provided a digital delivery approach that the agency is incorporating into their processes to reduce overall project risk and bring innovation to delivery.
