Connector with symbolic links

I've used a Windows 10 Symbolic Link to link a folder into the Fusion 360 drive for the desktop connector to sync into the cloud.  The folders and files are in my drive but they're not being sync'd to the cloud.  Why isn't the desktop connector able to sync and upload files that have been put in its area by a symbolic link?

Desktop Connector does not currently support symbolic links.

It appears that the Desktop Connector does work with a junction link.  I did this and it worked:

  1. Quit Autodesk Desktop Connector from its tray icon menu.
  2. Move (Cut and paste) the ACCDocs folder from your user profile directory (%USERPROFILE%\ACCDocs) to the D drive (D:\ACCDocs) or where ever you'd like it. (Not sure how it would work on a network drive, but that could be interesting to try.)
  3. Open a command prompt and create a junction link using this command:

    mklink /J %USERPROFILE%\ACCDocs D:\ACCDocs

  4. Start Autodesk Desktop Connector.

This seems to be allowing me to download and upload folders to that location now.  I am definitely no IT guru, so to give credit where credit is greatly due, I got this info from Christine at boxifier.com.

This approach (using junction links) to moving the workspace to a different location is not supported.

Mathew,

So Autodesk does not currently "support" this method... understood.

My question then becomes, why?  Is it only because it is a Microsoft based function/solution and thus Autodesk will not "support" the application if set up this way and the user needs your support?  Has Autodesk already tested this and found issues with using this method?  Is it that this method is not "supported" because it simply has not been officially tested?   Please let us know.  Thank you!

It is not supported because it hasn't been (and doesn't plan to be) officially tested.  It is unknown whether or not it will cause issues.

Please note, there are future plans to introduce a feature that allows the user to change the Desktop Connector workspace location.
