Most everyone knows how to create 3D Model text on a wall or the face of an object for signage purposes. For example, the side of the building could read Psychology Lab 101 or maybe you have a shopping plaza with signage of all sorts of retailers...very easy to do with Revit.
However, how do you make "negative" Model text? Text in which it "eats into" the face of the host object so it looks like recessed lettering? Here's how to do it...
Steps:
1. Create a host wall or an object to use its face as a host
2. Create a Reference Plane on that face and give the RP a name
3. Create the Model Text with the Reference Plane as the host (set the RP behind the wall)
4. Ensure the Model Text depth is greater than the wall or face so it eats into the wall or face
5. Select the Model Text and right-click to Override Graphics by Element...make it 100% transparent
6. Use Join Geometry command to join the MT with the wall/face
7. Hide the Model Text if needed to give that "negative" effect
Bonus 1: You can use any True Type font stored in your C:\Windows\Fonts folder for Revit to use
