One of the most overlooked features of the AutoCAD interface is the Quick Access toolbar. If some of you use Civil 3D, you will know that when you click on a Civil 3D object, a contextual ribbon appears. This is sometimes on the annoying side, as we as AutoCAD users (Civil 3D runs on top of AutoCAD) usually click on objects to see what layer they are on. When doing this in Civil 3D, you need to click on the Home tab to get back to where the layer pull-down menu is to view the layer. It would be so nice to have the layer pull-down right up top where it's easy to access. But wait...THERE IS!!
You can add ANY of your commands from the ribbon to the Quick Access toolbar! Where is the Quick Access toolbar located? At the top where you look to save/open/plot.
I assume a big misconception about adding to this toolbar is that you have to customize this through the CUI, which can be cumbersome. This assumption is far from the truth. So, let's say that I want to add the layer pull-down. I can simply go to the layer pull-down in the ribbon, right-click on it, and select Add to Quick Access Toolbar...
And lo and behold, it's now in the Quick Access toolbar
You can add several commands here. Even options with fly-outs can be added like the Paste button
Alternatively, you can remove items from the Quick Access toolbar the same way you added them. Right-click on it and select Remove From Quick Access Toolbar...
I hope this adds value to your production as it does mine. Show me your Quick Access toolbars in the comments below!
@ToddRogers-WPM that looks like Twitter's old furniture. Did you get it at auction? Love ya, brother! LOL
To save screen space I don't keep File Tabs turned on, instead I add the Ribbon Menu Button - Switch Windows to display all my open drawing names with complete paths with the current one checked which works well for me. Ctrl+Home is easy to remember for when I need the Start or Home page.
