AutoCAD 101: Tip & Trick #003 - Using Objects to Calculate Areas

Using Areas to Calculate Areas.png

We all know about the Measure (MEASUREGEOM) command over on the Utilities panel on the Home tab, right? It's GREAT for measuring and calculating stuff.

If you are using the Area option for the Measure tool, did you know that with an extra right-click, there's an Object option? So, if you are measuring areas of objects, using the Add and Subtract modes, you can right-click an extra time and the Object option will appear, as shown below.

This saves you from having to trace around the boundaries of complex objects, such as polylines and polygons, snapping to each and every vertex, making sure you get the correct object snap. All you need to do is just select the object. As long as it has a closed boundary, such as a polyline or polygon would have, it will select the entire object and use its area in your Measure/Area calculation.

This should save you a bit of time when calculating those areas!

Have a great week and stay tuned for another AutoCAD 101: Tip & Trick sometime soon!
