Persistent Update

Autodesk Access keeps showing an update for ADP Desktop SDK. I install the update, but when my system restarts or Access restarts, the updated shows again.

tony_csogroup_0-1741684742023.png

Access Version 2.13.0.173

I have tried uninstalling Access and re-stalling, but same thing happens. I even tried following the instructions to refresh the cache folder, but the SDS folder doesn't seem to exsist.

Any help would be grateful.

Access isn't the most reliable piece of software, so better check for update 'manually'.

It's frustrating that there are no release notes on this.  It also appear to only be available through Autodesk Access, as I do not see it (or any previous similar updates) available on my Autodesk management portal.

What to firms do that don't use Autodesk Access?

Google tells me "ADP" stands for Autodesk Data Platform, and "SDK" stands for Software Development Kit.  https://help.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2025/ENU/?guid=GUID-D7E8694D-7DB3-41CA-A0F3-AF64DC2DA015

It seems silly our production team to install software development tools if we're not using them.  It's one more thing to update, or in this case, apply a security fix.

I cannot find any way to uninstall "Desktop SDK."

I found a "security advisory" from 2024 regarding "Autodesk ADP Desktop SDK," which was considered "high risk."

Since I can't find any additional information on this, I guess I'm inclined to have my team install the update instead of being open to a security risk.

Is the SDK integrated into something else we have installed?

I do not like installing updates with zero release notes and minimal information for tools that (as far as I can tell) we do not use.

Any additional information or recommendations would be welcomed.

Thank you!

I check the Updates section on the account portal. And if there are updates, I have them installed using a Domain Shutdown script.

I presume you're having the same issue?

Simon, since this update only appears in Autodesk Access (not the portal), I assume you are just ignoring it?

Tony, yes the update reappears in Access within a couple minutes of saying it was updated successfully.

I'd feel better about spending time resolving this if there were release notes explaining what I was updating.

I'm pretty sure the SDK is installed as part of the Access app itself. I updated Access to the latest version but it made no difference.

I don't want to manually search for updates. I would preferer just to be notified when they are available up just hit the update button.

Yes, it seems like an update for a Software Development Kit. That's a different ballgame, with it's own site Autodesk Developer Network | Autodesk Platform Services. I presume that site holds all kinds of development kits and their respective updates.

As said earlier, Access isn't very reliable - it works in mysterious ways 🙂 There are numerous posts about Access offering updates for software not installed...

Edit: Just opened Access to see what it does on my machine. And it says 'no updates available', although Access itself is NOT up to date. And there's also the licensing service update 15.2.0.12803 I haven't installed yet, so...

I've this as well, but every time it shows up again and again in access, it says it has a different release date. seems like autodesk pushes out untested stuff (as usual) and then the next day they need to release a "fixed" version, over and over again...

I'm not sure this is it. The version number is the same every time. But yes, every time I open Access, the relase date has changed to todays date. Which is weird...

This has to be a bug in Access. I may raise a ticket today. They may fix it, they may not. I'm still waiting for fix in AutoCAD 2025 that I reported in July last year.

I didn't check the version numbers. Nor can I anymore, since it is not in installed programs or anything...

They never fixed any bugs I reported. Or "will be in next release" - which doesn't help us...

Access is complete useless garbage.

That's pretty much what @Simon_Weel and everyone else with experience in this forum have been reminding everyone all the time.

It is what it is, unreliable enough you need to stop wasting time with it. No one at Autodesk is fixing anything about it, been that way for years now.

I did not install any additional updates, and the ADP Desktop SDK update no longer shows up in Access for me either, so I think Autodesk may have fixed this particular bug.

I do not like using Access either.

However, since I function as my company's BIM manager (while keeping up with my project management/production workload), it is nice to be notified of updates.

We also do not have any IT tools (like Software Center) to push out updates, so when Access actually works, it is convenient for end users.

Since it's Autodesk's primary tool, it would be nice if they made it better.

At least we don't see ALL updates for plugins we don't even have installed, like the "Desktop App" used to.

Thank you all for the feedback.

I am going through this today.  It just notified me of an update for ADP Desktop SDK (dated today).

Run that update, and then it comes up with an update for CER service (dated Feb 14).

Run that update, and it comes back with the ADP Desktop SDK.

I've gone through 5 iterations of this.  Like I'm playing whack a mole.

Is one more important than the other?  If so, I'll stop there.

Hello @tcharbonneau

The CER Service is for error reporting (released with Autodesk 2025 software) and should not reappear after you install it successfully.

The consensus in this forum is that ADP (Autodesk Data Platform) Desktop SDK (Software Development Kit) is showing up in Access by mistake.

Since I don't have Autodesk's Software Development Kit installed, I'm ignoring this update.

The update is likely popping back up in Access because there is nothing installed on your machine to update, so it's not truly updating "successfully."

I ignored the ADP Desktop SDK update in Autodesk Access and it eventually disappeared after a few weeks.

Hope that provides some clarity!

I've reported this, and they say, it's resolved(???) and check this article:

https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Autodesk-Desktop-A...

or optionally clean reinstall the desktop app, which is useless as I don't have it. neither can I download this update as they suggest, nor Access...
