Plant PID line list

When placing equipment from the P&IDs in the 3D model with the current PLANTPIDLINELIST command, it has to already have a line attached to it to show up. In real life we would usually start adding the equipment to the model before the P&IDs are even started. If there is a way to equipment list for modeling like the line list, that would be great.

You can place the equipment in the model without a P&ID, and once the P&ID is created as long as the Tags match, they will Validate. The only difference is you can only pass data from the P&ID to the Model when using the P&ID Line List. It's a one way street and the workflow of the software - however, most companies do the P&ID's first. At least every company I have worked for since 1983.

If they ever combine the databases of P&ID and Plant 3D then this will no longer be an issue as well because the data would be the same for all components in P&ID and the Model. Usually what we do is we do PFD first to create an equipment list without any pipes. Then we can start at least to create a general layout in the 3d model of the plant so that other disciplines can get started before the P&IDs are done.

@Phil Same difference. PFD's are just another form of a P&ID in Plant 3D. Are you not putting your major pipe lines in the PFD in order to show the Process and Flow data? That is all you would need to have the equipment show up in the line list, and that is normally part of a PFD.

However, if all you are placing is the equipment in the PFD, you are correct, it will not show up in a Line List.
