What is the difference Layout1 vs Layout2 vs Create Ortho View

I have a project full of many components, and I am making blueprints of each one that look like this one:Screenshot_1.jpg

But right now I can't really figure out how to make Autocad do that for me so I kind of do it manually, like I first use 2D wireframe view then export each view to PDF and combine them etc... It's slow. I watched several tutorials but I still don't know what will be the best way to do this in Autocad Plant 3D.

1 When I use create ortho view it creates a view of everything that I have on my drawing, how can I make ortho of individual element ?

2 When I create ortho with "Create ortho view" and use "Dimension" but I want to change the dimension number since not all the components are to scale, Autocad doesn't allow me to change it tho.Screenshot_2.jpg

3. What is the difference between Layout1 and 2 and create ortho view button ?

Hi Maria,

the first difference between Layouts and Orthographic views is that you can access via annotation to the database properties of the model. For example you can annotated the pipe lines via Ortho Annotate by their tag number. This is not possible in the layouts.

If you want to see only single components in the ortho view, you can isolate them in the model. For example go to the model, select one pipe, right-click and choose from context menu "Add to selection - Entire line number". In the next step you can choose from context menu "Part Hiding/Isolation - Isolate Selected Parts". When you create now an ortho view, only the shown parts will be shown in the ortho view. Of course, during ortho creation you will see the ortho box. You can select it and choose the grip to adopt the size of the ortho cube. Only those parts will be shown which are inside of the cube.

The pink numbers are your matchlines. You can toggle them on or off during ortho creation.

They are showing you the maximum and minimum x- and y-coordinates of your model, visible n your ortho view.

About the dimension number: Yes, you are right: Because the values are from the database, Plant is here more restrictive for changing dimension values. In other words: You cannot change it manually. The model already has to be fine.

I hope I could help

Best regards

I tried to hide the objects but they appear anyway in the Orthographic View SelectionI have isolated the objects like shown on the preview but when I click OK i still see the whole things like seen next to itI have isolated the objects like shown on the preview but when I click OK i still see the whole things like seen next to it

Maybe I am missing to check some additional setting ? (eddit. I found that when I turn off the layer, then the elements in that layers do not appear, but when I just hide them they still appear like on the image above)

Also one more question. When I place a view in my ortho document and change it appearcen from Wireframe to lets say Realistic, nothing changes, why is that ?I change it to realistic but it still stays WireframeI change it to realistic but it still stays Wireframe

The important part is this one:

...go to the model, select one pipe, right-click and choose from context menu "Add to selection - Entire line number". In the next step you can choose from context menu "Part Hiding/Isolation - Isolate Selected Parts". When you create now an ortho view

In steps:

  • go to the model
  • select one pipe, right-click and choose from context menu "Add to selection - Entire line number".
  • In the next step you can choose from context menu "Part Hiding/Isolation - Isolate Selected Parts".
  • When you create now a new ortho view

Don't isolate when you see the. This won't work.
