Setting up a Vault

Hello

I've been reading up but don't really understand how this works..

What data does the Plant3D SQLServer hold (guessing it's pipe, valve, gasket, flange data) & how is kept upto date - the diagram below shows the Plant3D SQLServer to be outside the Vault server.

For user's working from home my guess was Vault (using get latest) would keep these files upto date for multiple users logged into the Vault.

With the slide below I was thinking the Plant3D SQLServer would be inside the Vault Server.

Dear @andrew_canfield ,

Vault is its own DB which is responsible for the doc administration
Plant 2D has its own DBs (ProcessPower for PuID, Piping for 3D, Ortho for 2D drawings, ISO for Isometric and MISC for everything that goes around it)
Plant 3D can be managed via SQLite or SQL-Server.
the two DBs from VAULT and Plant 3D cannot be operated together in VAULT.
I hope this helps

Hello Hartmut

The aim is to speed up opening & saving drawings for users working from home - it's been suggested Vault will help.

I'm guessing there's still going to be a considerable lag if a central database needs to accessed by 2 or 3 users working from home & the Plant DB is on the office server.

Andrew

I guess Vault Basic's sql express isn't going to help...

Hi Andrew,

are you responsible for the CAD administration in your company?

Hello Hartmut.

Yes - I look after CAD administration.

Looking at BIM360 to solve the Plant home working problem but not sure if that's live in Europe yet (had confirmation that the trial isn't).

Any other ways to speed up plant for remote working?

Regards

Andrew

Dear @andrew_canfield ,

yes there is a technology that accelerates the work from outside!

That means your workstation is in your office with a direct LAN connection to the data server and you access your workstation via a Smal notebook and VPN and RDP.
