Properties of AutoCAD Plant 3D 2021 Equipment lost

Lately we have started experiencing an issue where all Plant 3D model equipment properties are getting lost. We are 4 CAD users working in AutoCAD Plant 3D with BIM Collaborate Pro and the last few days all of us started experiencing the issue of lost properties. Suddenly the only properties available are the ones in the screenshot that I have attached. Same thing for all nozzle information for the tanks etc. Actually it seems like the database is corrupt. What is very strange is that in some .dwg files some of the equipment are faulty where as others have not lost their properties at all. We are using AutoCAD Plant 3D 2021 version and have done the latest update a few days ago (attached the exact info of our AutoCAD version).

Is there any known solution to this problem? I have been able to fix it in the beginning by just clearing the cache locally and downloading the whole project from the cloud again (BIM Collaborate Pro). But I am not able to fix this anymore by using this solution. And more importantly do we know why this was caused? So I can prevent it of happening again.

Hi,

I cannot say what has caused the issue.

However, it appears that the equipment item has lost its link to the associated data in the dwg file.

This can happen for various reasons, including: if the dwg has been edited/saved in standard AutoCAD outside of Plant 3D or if the dwg has been recovered after a crash using the Drawing Recovery Manager.

With ABC Pro, you should be able to find a previous version of the dwg that contains the lost data and possibly restore that.

Regards,

Andy

@vsfakianakis

as @AndyDavisArkance already mentioned, I can certainly agree to the point, that the plant must have been 3D crashed somehow and the plant 3d drawing file has been recovered. On the other hand the equipment could be drawn in 3D upfront before converting it to a plant 3D equipment.

Anyhow, I don't recommend to recover plant 3D drawing files, as they always tend to get corrupted. In some cases I personally noticed that even normal weld joints got lost (physically connected with attributes etc.) and in the isometrics they're suddenly disconnected - I ended up to redraw half of my pipelines.

Therefore, I draw my equipment separate from the pipeline drawings. In case one file is corrupted, it cannot affect the other one.

You can try to use the audit and validation commands to check and verify your project data.

I have asked IT for a file retrieval but expecting a possible long weekend to unbookable hours but I to never use the recover option your right the data gets corrupt but have used file retrieval from back up server but it takes IT a while to to retrieve - you must note down the time of crash an subtract an hour less and the date of course , audit always says no errors and validate I have done that with this one yet, thanks I will try it. My crash happened after used Trial P3D 2024 while IT on Holiday and stayed with it until last minute and it dropped out. It had stopped asking me time is running out I thought licence had changed all sorted now.
