I keep getting an error message when I save a project drawing "Another user is updating the project and your changes cannot currently be saved...." (See attached jpeg) I have to crash my Plant 3D to get out of this. I'll use "Datacachepurger.exe" then delete the "***.xml.plck" files out of the plant 3d directory. It will work fine when I get back in Plant 3D... for a little while. Then I'll get the error message right back. Any ideas?

We are running Plant 3D 2016, SP1

Thanks

Additional Info:

The project is a sql lite database. It could be converted to our SQL Server, but the user does not have proper network rights. This would be a last resort, if there aren't any solutions.

This is unusual. Yes, SQL Server may well be a good solution. How many users are in this project?

If more than one or two, that would be a good way to go.

It sounds like you already seen this article: AutoCAD Plant 3D and P&ID: Another user is updating the project. warning message

The project likely needs some maintenance, especially if there's been crashing.

  1. With all other users out of the project, do a full project audit.
  2. Open each 3D model drawing and do a PLANTAUDIT and save each drawing.
  3. Be sure to do the same for all external references used by your model drawings.
  4. Then another project audit.
  5. Compress the database.
  6. Purge the local cache again.

Additionally,

  • I’d power down the computers each night and restart fresh each day.
  • Do a local data cache purge daily, first thing.
  • Audit the project routinely, daily.
  • Be sure to have a regular backup routine in place.
  • Make sure you have plenty of harddrive disk space on each machine (avoid being in the red).
  • Don't have other applications on and running in the background, including Autodesk programs. Close out if not using to save system resources.
  • If you experience crashing and have opportunity to send in error report, please do so, including your email address in the report.

I tried all the things you mentioned and it would work for a while, then the error message would pop up again. The whole thing is strange, since there is only one person working on that project and I'm the only one with admin rights. Its kind of a bummer there is no way to send and error message report, since nothing technically crashes. It just doesn't allow you to save the drawing.

I went ahead and switched the project to a SQL Server database and gave the user network rights. So far the user hasn't received any more error messages.

Thanks for the help,
Chris

I have received a new beefy computer with 2019 Plant 3D suite installed.  For 3 weeks now, I've had the same issue going on.  I can't figure it out.  If I am in a drawing within a project, about an hour (not exact) into the drawing I get the Project currently in use error and it locks my computer.  It's very frustrating.  I've done all that was mentioned in your message as well.  And, I'm the only one that uses the projects.  There are no other users.  I'm getting very close to just asking for my old computer and 2018 suite back.  My boss is very frustrated as well and is saying someone from Autodesk needs to come here and figure this out cause it's causing problems with my productivity.

Hi Martin,
I have done so. The case was opened when the problem started. But, it's
not helped as of yet.
Thanks for your post.

This is probably old. but one of the causes is a network drop.

It doesn't need to be something you notice.. it can be a very quick network drop and bam!!.. You can't save it anymore without crashing.

Unfortunately following all these instructions don't solve the issue.

We had the same issue a few years ago, we tried turning off directory indexing, the network file system scan, local virus scan,   booting the pc into safe mode, etc.  One of those seemed to do the trick, it was some file being looked at / indexed / scanned while we were trying to use it.  That was two companies ago so there's no one to ask about specifics.

Hi everyone,

we have the same error with every user (10 users) after a certain time.

We have found that when we append the drawing file into Navisworks these errors start to happen more. We now use .nwd files of the pipes in Navisworks.

Has anyone else found this
