Problem with parts changing status to blank.

We have recently discovered an issue with our models.  We create piping systems.  Run ISOs and everything is fine.  When we run the Report Creator for New parts we discovered not all the new parts were present.  We then discovered in the data manager that something is changing certain part's status from "New" to blank.  We cant seem to figure out why certain parts are doing this.  Is anyone else having this issue!?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm having the same issue - P3D 2016 SP2. I have not deterimined the cause. Status default value is set to 'New'.

If you've been using Export/Import from the Data Manager,  this could be due to a mismatch with using Plant 3D 64-bit and MS Excel 32-bit.

You can check if MS Office is 64-bit by opening Excel, select File tab, select Account, then select “About Excel”:

So if your Microsoft Office (including Excel) is 32-bit, then maybe try one of these solutions:

I appreciate the reply, but Im not using the import/export function.  Im simply opening the Data manager and some parts will not have a status.  Its just a blank field.  This doesnt effect the bill of material on any isometric, but when i open Report creator and run a report for new items, the blanks dont show.  This problem is happening to a few of us here that work together and we cant identify what we are doing in the model to cause this.

The screen shot is the data manager with a few status blank.

Good day. Just an idea, maybe in the report creator instead of reporting new, why not change the filter to report not "existing" items instead? Again just an idea, many thanks.

This is a great idea, but doesnt work.  We came up with the same idea.  In the status filter we changed the query to <>'EXISTING'.  When I run the query It doesnt include anything with a blank status.  We can however filter for Blank status items.  Is there a way to query for more than 1 status?  Like New and Existing?  If there is how is this written?

Thanks for any help!

I use this filter - works fine here.

Thanks Jabowabo for the reply.  Ive tried every which combination of filters and the only time i can get it to query the blank status succesfully is when i query only blank status.  I tried your And filter, but it gave the same results.  Only "New" status items showed.

Hi Fcratty,

Here are some troubleshooting questions that may help:

  • What version of Plant 3D are you using? Extension? Service Pack?
  • What report creator template are you using?
  • Does this happen in a new test project based on the default project template and out-of-the-box parts?
  • Does this happen in other projects or just this one?
  • Is there any commonality with the missing parts? Were these components that were changed in the model? Custom components or default parts?
  • Do these correspond with the Data Manager behavior you described? Same parts?
  • Does this happen if the status were all existing? (may be a good test to check).
  • If multiple users in the project (and on a network) is everyone purging the local data cache on their machine frequently?
(With Plant 3D and any Autodesk programs closed, go to Run and browse for the utility PnPLocalDataCachePurger.exe   Typical location: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2016\PLNT3D\PnPLocalDataCachePurger.exe)
  • Is the Plant 3D administrator auditing the project on a regular basis?  This should be done regularly and frequently on an active project.
  • Is the person responsible for catalog and specifications management confident in their workflow? Improperly edited or updated specs can cause erradict results in the project.

In principle this is a nice workaround, but how do you know the Status=blank items are indeed supposed to be New and not Existing? The risk is relatively low, but present.

BTW, i'm also experiencing the same issue, P3D 2016 Ext.1 between several projects, using a base project created under P3D 2016 Ext.1.

I've checked all my current projects for this, version 2017.1. All pipe run components are "existing" or "new". The only ones that are "blank" status are 2 nozzles from a pump.

Could be an issue only for 2016  version?

Message 12 of 14

I'm also having the issue with Plant3D 2017 SP1, with a project based on the 2017 standard project.

Catalogs and spec from 2016 though.

The status changes with changing spec of the already drawn pipe's. I do not know to avoid that but will try several thinks.

PLANTCOPYLINENUMBER ON will help to keep the status after spec change of drawn pipes
