Plant 3D Structure Plate Grating no thickness in Ortho

Hi all,

With Plant 3D 2018 i have created a model with structure plating in it. This plating is grated and displays properly in 3D.

image.pngimage.png

The problem occurs when creating Ortho's; The structure grate is shown as a single line in the side views without any thickness.

image.pngimage.png

As visible in the left Ortho the structure plate is shown only by a single line without the thickness specified and shown in 3D.

Is this general problem with plant 3D or am i doing something wrong?

Kind regards,

Daniël

Hi,

You're doing nothing wrong, it's a defect in the software.

A workaround for you could be to explode the grating a couple of times in the model (it'll explode to lines) then select the lines and extrude to create a solid of the correct thickness.

Regards,

Andy

Hi Andy!

Thanks for your reply.

this is an option to correct the apperance on the orthographic view.

Although all "smart" structure data is then lost and the grate is not as easily edited anymore.

@Anonymous: There is probably no known ETA on a fix?

Kind regards,

Daniël

@daniel.sweco this is something that is still logged on the development side.

If you have access to AutoCAD Advanced Steel this might be another option that does display the thickness.

AutoCAD Plant 3D drawing with AutoCAD Advanced Steel xref'd into the model.

Ortho generated in AutoCAD Plant 3D.

Hi Quentin

thanks for the reply!

I have tried xref'ing a Advance Steel grate to the Plant 3D model.

This does show the thickness of the grate when making a side-view. Although on a top-view it does not show any components which are under the grate, or the internal lines of the grate (it's shown as a single solid object (cube)).

The grate is the large square on the left.

This is with shape model turned on in Plant 3D. Are there other options i missed in Advanced Steel that fix this?

Kind Regards,

Daniël

@daniel.sweco unfortunately the grating is not shown in Plant 3D because Advanced Steel models currently only display in Standard display mode in a Plant 3D orthographic drawing. This information can  be found in this Autodesk Knowledge Network article,  How can AutoCAD Advance Steel shapes display in AutoCAD Plant 3D orthographics.

Hi Quentin

thank you for the reply!

So the issue is, in this case, unsolved.

This makes using grating from Plant 3D of Autocad Mechanical not usable if Otho's are needed.

Any knowledge if a fix for this is in the pipeline?

Kind regards,

Quentin & Autodesk, please answer the last question from Daniel. Specifically, WHEN will there be a fix for this defect in the software? This has been a known issue for several years.

Don't hold your breath, if it hasn't been fixed until now, I doubt it'll ever get fixed.
