Plant 3D 2025 - P&ID - Layer by Service

Hi All,

Can P&IDs be auto-layered by their "Service" property?

I know that its possible with the 3D Models, so wondered if it can be done with the P&IDs?

Hello @ljboxer1983

At the layer level, P&ID objects are not managed as in 3D.
Except for a specific application, it is not possible to automatically change the layer of P&ID objects as can be done in 3D.

Au niveau des calques les objets P&ID ne pas gérés comme en 3D.
Sauf application particulière, il n'est pas possible de changer automatiquement le calque des objets P&ID comme peut le faire la 3D.

Only other way would be to make new process lines for each service and then change the properties of those lines to be put on the service they are.

You can change the layers with a simple AutoLisp routine, but you'll need .NET to read acquisition properties or read the service property from the PipeLineGroup. So if you want a tool to do this, I can't imagine it's very complex, you will need to develop it in .NET.

It might be a nice first project.

This is interesting, is there any where I could find people with .NET and lisp experience specifically for Plant 3D?

There are several people on these forums that have the necessary .NET experience for developing such a feature.

Or you can check out the P3D developers' corner
https://aps.autodesk.com/developer/overview/autocad-plant-3d-and-pid?_ga=2.64267628.2146251635.16273...
Follow this tutorial to create your first AutoCAD plugin:

https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/tsarticles/ts/6kRFCS0mCalWLwAOpP9pNT.html

combine the information from the two above and you can try and create this plugin yourself.
