Isometric pipeline plane understanting

 Hello everyone, my name is Enrique and I am new at the forum. I'm sure that like others forums there is a place to introduce myself, but I don't have time right now, sorry.

 

Basically, I'm mechanical engineering and I have aplied for a job where the task is related with nuclear centers. I went to the firts interview and they have send me homework. I have to analyze and design in 3D an isometric plane of a pipeline. 

 

After hours of searching, now I understand almost everything, but there is still some things I dont guess. I have seen some works here and I'm sure someone can help me.

In this picture, there is a 3 way valve but I dont know what is the symbol at the side. It also says the valve is 8x8', how can I interpretate it for the design?

Upside here, again, what kind of valve is 5? Another thing I dont know is for example F7 G11 B12, what represent each number?

At the left circle, is this the symbol for a sockolet? 

 

 

And just for end, they ask me what weldings are done in the place or in factory. Means Fw= field welding and SW= shop welding?

I'll throw out a "gimmee" here.  The "F" "G" and "B" notation isn't very common these days; it's used on isometrics to clarify which part numbers are the F(lange), G(asket), and B(olts).  The chunky TXT fonts are a pretty big giveaway this is an old out-of-the-box ISOGEN style.

 

The other questions though... those are all basic piping stuff.  If you're going to be acting in an engineering capacity, ESPECIALLY for nuclear design, you have to know these already.  I hate to say it, but the job sounds past your current abilities.

First of all, thanks for your quick answer!

 

Now I know something new.

 

About the second, I know it is something really easy for those how works wiht that, but for me is something completely new. The company order this task just to iniciate and know how is going to be the day by day, but in case of be select, they will form me.

 

I will keep trying it.

Hi again guys,

 

Lets go with another question.

 

If I have this line, how I know the flow direction?

I understand that the FE is a flow nozzle wich could mean that the flow goes to the left? 

 

The symbol with the right arrow I dont know what it is, but make me thing that it is right flow.

 

Wich is the good one?

your excerpt is the MP to LP Steam preperation. The flow direction is here only by the check valve

please get information about your new work in nuclear power plants is not played but worked with high levels of engineering!

welcome to the Forum.

your questions showing a different language.

 

Anyway. Please be sure that working in nuclear power plants is much more special and difficult as other plants. Be careful with generating documentation!

 

to your questions, some of them already answered, i will try to combine all together.

 

at first to each isometric drawing exists a partslist, there you will find all numbers (excluded welds) with description what it is.

 

Your red circle around the first pic is a flange, you will find the type in the partslist (But i think its a welding neck flange) but there are no position number on the isometric drawing so i think its listed on the connection iso but only showed here again. normaly parts which are listed on an other Isometric drawing) are showed with dashed line.

 

i think the 8x8 is addintional info for the 3way valve, which means S1-S3 ports are equal 8 in

 

second picture:

its a flange again , there you find the position number F6

it means a Olet but could some things more. its not 100% clear what the isometric symbol should to be, you have to check partslist. But normaly thats the symbol for olet. the red circle is a angle safety valve.

shopwelds = dot 

field weld = x

third picture. For Flow direction you have to check the complete PID or experience with Steam lines. But as @h_eger said, in this simple pic, only the check valve is an indicator for the flow direction. and the flow meter FE which are only usable from one side.

Hello Ruffy,

 

Thank you so much for your complete answer and for taking part of your time to answer me.

 

Thanks for the advice, despite I think I won't design anything. I will just enterprite the drawing and do some calculations to see if something could break in the future.

 

As you say, all the elements were mentioned in the part list and finally I could understand everything. 

 

Good symbology pdf, I have allready saved it.
