Impact of Bitlocker on Performance

Hi all

Has anyone noticed a performance hit after initiating bitlocker on their CAD machine?

It is difficult to assess here because we are changing machines at the same time as having bitlocker enabled.

But we are finding that, even with up-to-date machines with fast processors, Plant is taking the machines to the limit.  So I am after any advantage I can get.

I have googled bitlocker impact on CAD and not found much.  Does anyone know if there has been a before and after test performed on CAD or Plant machines to quantify any reduction in performance?

If there is a significant effect, I will be inclined to disable bitlocker on the CAD machines.

The new devices are HP with SSD primary drives.

Do you have a "feel" as to how that impacts usage of Plant?

Presumably, when working on a large model, memory is still paging to disk?

Our machines have 32Gb RAM, maybe I under spec'd that.

This benchmark that I share with you contains sandbox tests (only one machine), not considering network latency.

With plant 3D you have 3 or 4 variables that needs to considering:

1) If you execute Plant 3D sandboxed (on monolithic machine) or in network;

2) If you execute Plant 3D with SQLite or SQL Server;

3) If you execute Plant 3D with on use or multiple users;

4) If you use BIM to sync your Project on Cloud (this not maybe that important to our analyse...);

If you opt for first choice at number 1) "execute only Plant 3D sandboxed (on monolithic machine), you have the same result of StackOverflow benchmark (approximately). Else, you have other impacts from another layers envolved.

Because from the moment the transfer rate of the disks are busy, you have a cascade effect, ie: information that needs to be accessed, queried, consumed Bitlocker disk will have a loss already by the nature of the encryption algorithm, if the access is by network to this disk, you will have the emission of packages with multiplied effect in the latency impacted by the loss of the transfer rate among other impacts.
