How to create "unique" signal line tags

Anonymous
Not applicable

Dear all and thanks in advance.

I would like to create a Unique tag for signal lines.  I understand how to create a Tag for signal lines I also understand how the unique tagging of Pipelines and Pipeline group works but when it comes to Signal line tags There seems to be no uniqueness to any tag I give signal lines.

If I can get that to work I would like to be able to get the signal line tags to auto tag in a similar manner to "equipment".  (this is similar to the out of the box functionality you get with equipment).

I am trying to implement this as a manner of providing "Unique" loop numbers to instruments that acquire part of the tag from the tag of the instrument line the item is attached to.

Help is much appreciated.

Dear @Anonymous ,

simply implement the systematics of the Pipelines-group and Pipline-Segment on the Signalline-group and Signalline -Segment

Could you add a screenshot of where "systematics" for Pipelines-group and Pipline-Segment on the Signalline-group and Signalline -Segment.

I have not heard of this property before nor can I find it within the project setup?

Thanks

I have tried that solution in the past and Just made the same identical changes.  It does not seem to work I am using 2018.  There also appears to be a few steps missing in the creation of a tag format for signal lines such as setting up the tag format for the "Group"

Either way the "uniqueness" of the tag does not seem to work.

Has anyone found a actual solution to this issue?

The challenge currently is that when a user assigns a tag to a "signal line" the Tag information does not filter through to the "signal line group tag".  check it out in the signal line group tag column in the data manager.  It does not work regardless of a plant refresh or any other refresh I have tried.  The only way is to navigate via the data manager to the signal line group tag within data manager and double click the tag (not the segment).  Then the error checking for the group works.  This is a major fault with the product. Check it out and complain to Autodesk accordingly and hopefully they fix it.  As far as I can tell its been an issue for many years AND is a potential cause of tagging issues that many people have been having because the tag of signal lines has not been propagating through the database properly.

In case anyone is still struggling with this issue the best work around I was able to find was

- To create a Pipe Line Segment Class and called it Instrument line.

- Created my own Tag format for that single line (so that I can have a number different then the regular piping).

- Make the Line on a No Plot Layer.

Now when I select a instrument to insert the Instrument picks up the Tag from the line.

Multiple instruments on that line (Instrument Loop) can have the same loop number.

However no 2 separate Instrument Loops will have the same number.

It is now 2022 and this issue is still functioning exactly as it was in 2019.  please note this would be a significant advantage for users if the instrument line tagging group functionality worked 100%

So to bring this topic to a close, you set an empty project with your configurations so that we can check why it does NOT work for you and many other users have no problem with that, I included the Unique works for me with the signal lines.
Please provide a documentation (in PDF format) as you have configured with the unique signal line.

Hi There

Signal lines are not by default included in the "Unique" table in the database.

The following are included...

The components which need a unique tag in the project are:

  • Equipment
  • Hand Valves
  • Instrumentation
  • PipeLineGroup
  • Nozzles of a specific equipment

These classes are listed in the table "PnPTagEnlistedColumns" in processpower.dcf of the project.

The link below explains how to add the "PipingingSpecialyItems" to enforce unique numbers.

Assuming it will work for SignalLineGroup, then follow the instructions for creating unique Pipeline Segment numbers via the PipelineGroup.

Cheers
