Help making custom threaded parts

Hi everyone.

I'm fairly new to plant 3d and working on some piping and such. I've been using plant part convert and the custom part feature to add in flanges/elbows etc. I am however finding trouble with pairing threaded males and females. When attempting to connect them together they end up joined tip to tip instead of inserted. I imagine this has something to do with editing the engagement length but tinkering around with it has not yielded any tangible results.

would love input on what probably is an easy solution to something youtube and google didn't provide any obvious answers for.

Engagement length only visually cuts back pipe graphics - it does not alter where the pipe is connected. Your fitting connection points must be set to where the pipe actually terminates in the female end.
