Export to excel - Cannot add rows

I was trying to populate one spec with content from another. Copy / Paste, the content wasn't there when I reimported. A little research indicated you couldn't add rows. What's the value if the item needs to be there already? I would think the only information you could easily add would be data that didn't change, Long description, Manufacturer, that kind of thing. And the spec editor interface already populated that information down the column when editing.

Is there a way to actually add content to a spec through Excel? Can I create or modify the PnPID myself? Thanks.

You can copy/paste between specs in the spec editor tab, and between catalogs in the catalog editor tab.

You cannot generate rows either through exporting from the data manager or spec editor.  For specs, it's because there actually isn't enough data stored in the Excel spreadsheet to create a new item correctly.  For the data manager, it's because it wouldn't know which file should hold the items or where they should go.

There is a lot of value editing descriptions and other properties in Excel. We routinely use it to set up new specs for a client.

Thank you for your reply. The catalog we are using is very generic. I've found Excel is a great place to populate the columns with everything they need. But also because of the very generic catalog, it's cumbersome creating new specs/rows. Thank you.

You can insert rows, but you have to unprotect the sheet here:
