Display Flange Bolts in 3D Model

  1. Hi there,
  • I work for a surveying company and we have been asked by one of our clients to provide an asbuilt model of a  manifold. We are planning to use a 3d laser scanner and point cloud feature extraction software to model the pipe and fittings.  The client has also asked us to model the flange bolts.

Is it possible to display 3D Bolts in Plant 3D? If not, would any other Autodesk software be able to do it? Our company is currently subscribed to the AEC collection.

Thank you

Robert

No, Plant3D doesn't do the bolts, you wouldn't want to, there's 1000's of bolts on every project, you'll kill the model.

Having said that, if you have the AEC Collections, you have some options

* Model the bolts in Plain Vanilla AutoCAD

* Advance Steel

* Revit

You could display botls by including their graphic in the flanges. You will however have to model them as blocks, and  it will not work on parametric equipment nozzles.

Thats the sample project with an imported Inventor model. That's not a Plant3D part of the that file.

By the sounds of it Plain-Jane autocad modeling is likely the best recommendation, as in an as built (of something currently decommissioned) there may be partial bolt sets, or various/mismatched bolt lengths that will be visible in the scan, but software generated bolts wont likely be able to detect. Additionally if they are concerned with bolt hole orientations, that could make it quite the detailed job!
