Delay (lag) in selecting 3d piping

I have a drawing with 3d piping and pumps. And a 3d building grid made of normal lines. If i want to select multiple piping parts (not window but single clicking) there is a small delay (lag) after selecting each component.

The strange thing is, if i select the building grid which is made of lines (normal vector) and then select 3d piping components there is no lag at all. This is also the case if i select a 3d solid and then the 3d piping. Even more strange is i'm selecting 3d piping with the lagging effect, if i then add a line or 3d solid to the selection the lag disappears.

This applies for all the visual styles. Wireframe or shaded etc. doesn't make a differance.

Can anybody explain to me what is going on here? Is this fixable or not?

Hi Frederikus,

this might have different causes.

For example high coordinates. Can you check with command ID the coordinates of your model? Higher than 100.000 isn't best and the decrease of performance will be exponentiell the higher the coordinates are. In this case my recommendation is to move the model nearby 0,0,0.

Other reasons might be RAM. Depending on your project size and complexity, you need more or less RAM. My recommendation for Plant 3D is minimum 16 GB RAM.

Next point could be your graphic card. Check here graphic cards which are certified and recommended for the use of AutoCAD-based products. You can also download a recommended driver here. About the drivers: Look for the version on this site but also the installed drivers on your machine. Therefore do a Start - RUN - MSINFO32 - Enter. Go to node "Display" and check your installed graphic card and the installed driver. If the installed driver number is smaller than the one on our site, then it is an out-dated one and you have to update your driver. If you have higher number installed, then your driver is newer than the tested. This means in first case nothing as we are always behind with testing the drivers because we can only start testing when the driver is already published by the manufacturer.

Please, let us know if I could help you.

Hi Bernd,

We checked the orientation of the model and it's origin is 0,0,0 the maximum distance is 48 meter wide and 12 meter high.

The computer specs are:

mobo: MSi-Z390a pro

proc: Intel I7 9700K

650 watt power supply

disk: Samsung 970 EVO m.2 500gb SSD

Mem: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB DDR4-3200 3200 MHz

vid: PNY Quadro P4000 2gb

Checked the video driver version which was newer then the supported one on the autodesk site. Rolled back to the autodesk supported driver. To no avail.

So far no changes.

Greetings Frederikus
