Creating reports issue

If I create a new report from an existing one it creates it and saves it ok, when I modify the layout of the new report and change data fields I have found it is not saving these changes even if I save as I go and reverts back to the previous version although it does occasionally save them but it is very random, the issue being I have to save, close and check after each minor change to see if it will save them which it generally does not.

I have tried this on different machines and still get the same problem so it seems like a software bug to me.

Hi,

Whenever you edit a Report configuration, you may have to save both the Report's layout in Report Designer and its configuration. I think you are missing one of them. Please see the attached images.

Thanks

The method outlined by Vasu is what I was doing;

Step 1. I create a new report from existing and save the report configuration (bottom picture from Vasu).

Step 2. I edit the report layout and save it (top picture from Vasu).

I have just tried it again and the ‘save report configuration’ button is greyed out after modifying the report layout so that’s not the answer.

A couple of things I did find;

  1. It seems to save the new report layout ok the first time you modify it by saving the report layout (top picture from Vasu).
  2. The problem occurs in subsequent editing of the new report, if you redesign it again and save the report layout (top picture from Vasu) and exit the Report Creator it does not save it.
  3. With subsequent editing of a new report I have found that if you, save the report layout (top picture from Vasu) then close the editor, then press the OK button in the report configuration dialog box (bottom pic from Vasu) it seems to save it, if you press CANCEL it does not, although this should not affect anything as the report layout was already saved in the report editor.

@Anonymous,

I do follow what @Vasu27 have mentioned. But while saving Report configuration (after saving report layout), I prefer  to save by toggling the RCF file by clicking over the report name. It will automatically prompt you to save the Report configuration.
