Changing components description in ISO drawings.

Hello colleagues,

due to client's request I must change description of the components in ISO drawings.

Long description (size) is set to appear in ISO drawings.

lds01.PNG

I changed the description using SpecEditor.

lds02.PNG

Than tried to update Spec, but parts with updated description where not listed.

Old description appear in ISO drawings again.

I don not want to updated specs, because this will restore a lot of custom components to default.

Changing descriptions in AuroCAD on already generated thousand ISO drawing takes a lot of time I do not have.

How can I update components description?

Regards

Dear @popovUS9BY ,

not accept such a change from the client at any time during the project!!!!!
There is no possibility to apply this change to already created iso's!!!!!

Since you can't or don't want to go the PipeSpec update route due to too many manual changes, I don't know any way to do this.

Even if you would change your PipeSpec you would have to create all Iso's again because there is no connection from created Iso's to the Plant 3D Piping database anymore.

Not good news but that's all I can offer you.

This is going to be a difficult, if not impossible, task to do with built-in functions unless you uses PLANTSPECUPDATECHECK. This will only work though if the model items still have a connection to the spec database(s). And, as you mentioned, this can cause issues with custom items that you do not want to be updated.

It may be possible to bulk find/replace text in the models and/or isos via code if the there is a one-to-one correlation between old and new descriptions. This could only be accomplished by third-party applications or custom coding.

I've never used this tool, but it may be worth checking if it can help in your situation: https://support.ecedesign.com/support/solutions/articles/24000070039-bulk-change-pipe-properties-in-...

Dear h.eger,

thanks for reply.

I do not take decisions for project updates, I'm just a piping designer.

I'll generate ISOs again because 6 of 6 pumps where changed too.

However, even if I generate ISOs again, there is still no chance new components description to appear in new ISOs - right?

Regards

Dear @popovUS9BY ,

I would not say it is quite that simple.
You can deselect all fields in the Spec Editor under "Update Specs From Catalogs Settings" and only select the field "Long Description (Size)" and update your spec.

02-11-_2023_09-04-09.png

You can repeat the same in the Plant 3D Setup:

In the Iso Config you have already changed the BOM text to PartSizeLongDesc.

Please test in a backup copy of your project so that nothing can be destroyed.

Hello jabowabo,

thanks for reply.

I cannot see the point using this tool.

If I manually select all piping fittings of same Spec, diameter and type I can change description from Properties panel.

I tried command Filter to select combination of Spec/diameter/type, but those parameters where not available from drop down menu.

Also I do not have easily select able straight piping segments, but fitting after fitting, after fitting, after fitting situation.

However thanks for reply.
