Bolt Types and when to use them?

I have been looking for a good resource to explain the different types of bolts in the ASME P3D catalog and when to use them.

Stud Bolt seems pretty straight forward to me - used in most industrial applications to fasten a flanged item to another flanged item, also used to sandwich wafer items between two flanges or when the valve has lugs that aren't tapped.

Lug Bolt seems simple enough - to me you use this bolt when you have a lugged valve when the bolts thread into a tapped hole. Now I am not sure if I use it when I have a pass through lugged valve(wafer) that requires a nut on the other end.

Machine Bolt getting more confusing - I am not sure what the difference this is and where to use it instead of the lug bolt. Can someone help me out here?

Machine Lug Bolt really confused now - I have no idea how this is different from a machine bolt or a lug bolt and where I should use this type of bolt and with what end connections.

Below are the common types of connections I am used to. For conversation sake lets number them 1-4 starting with 1 on the left and 4 on the right.

I would typically use:

Machine bolt for 1

Stud Bolt for 2

Lug bolt for 3

Will plant 3d allow a stud bolt for number 4?

So where is machine lug bolt used?

1-3 make sense to me. I have never been asked to use 4. Maybe its when they cant find any hex head bolts in the field and they just cut down studs or threaded stock?

What is the Machine Lug Bolt used for in plant 3d?

What is the difference between Lug Bolt and Machine Bolt in plant 3d

In plant 3D a bolt is just a textual description, the only thing that matters is whether you will count it as a lug set or not. There is no geometry or rules in Plant 3D that you need to follow. Using the simple joint rules in the project setup you can require certain connection types to use certain types of bolts. Or you can give your bolt fasteners in your joint setups an equivalence (like compatible bolt standard has to be the same) and so by adding the compatible bolt standard to your flanges you can determine in your catalog which flange has to use which bolt set.

As to the difference between a machine bolt and a machine lug bolt - although I have never needed the latter - I believe the difference is that the latter has a washer like feature just under the head and the former does not.
