AutoCAD Vault Tab in Plant 3D?

AutoCAD Vault Tab in Plant 3D?

Has anyone got any ideas on this one?

I'm trying to use Plant 3D in the Drafting & Annotation workspace and work with non-project AutoCAD drawings, I can't get the Autocad Vault tab & commands to appear and work to check-in/out files. I was able to get the Autocad Vault tab to appear through the CUI dialog but all the buttons are greyed out.

The Plant 3D Vault tab requires a project to be set and only works with project related drawings.

Thanks,

Dave

That's as designed. To use normal vault operations, use plain AutoCAD.

It doesn't look like there's a way to start standard AutoCAD from a non-suite Plant 3D installation unfortunately.

You should be able to by going to C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2016\acad.exe and launching it from there. You may have to include the /product swich like this if you want to create a shortcut. /product ACAD /language "en-US"

Thanks Dave. I did try both of those scenarios you suggested and they start Plant 3D in both cases.

I can start a standard AutoCAD from a suite installation but not from the P3D (non-suite) installation.

Ok, forgot. I just tested this and it worked for me.  So create a new profile in Plant 3D.  Then in the registry editor go to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R20.1\ACAD-F017:409\Profiles

and find the profile name you created. Add the DWord IsPureAcadProfile and set it to 1. Then modify the shortcut to use your profile with /p "profilename"

I followed your steps but was unsuccessful. With a new profile and the registry edit included, Plant3D still started instead of AutoCAD.

Here I've switched to the D&A workspace again and tried loading the Vault tools just in case I was mistaken.

Can you upload a screenshot that has a higher resolution? Oh, and try to reset the profile you just made. I have seen that force AutoCAD to run.

Yeah, the scaling made it difficult to read.

Edit: I think the bulletin board is doing some scaling.  RMB > Save As... and you should get a version you can read 🙂

I sent your desired workflow here to the development team as a product change request.

As an alternative workflow, you should be able to use the Vault Client to check AutoCAD-only drawings in and out of Vault (not Plant 3D project dwgs). In fact, in the Vault add-in for Plant 3D, there is a button to launch client (PLANTVAACEXPLORER).
