AUTOCAD PLANT 3D 2025 - Edit Insulation Thickness

“I am new to Plant 3D and I am currently stuck on the following point: How can I edit the insulation thickness of a pipe?”

The insulation thickness is a property of the pipeline group, not of the individual segments.
Select any segment and scroll down to the Process Line properties in the properties palette and you'll be able to change the thickness from a drop down menu

Each individual segment also contains an acquired property 'insulation thickness' which basically just copies the value from the group to which the segment belongs. you can see it is an acquired property because of the lightning flash. If you want you can change it to override mode by clicking on the rightmost lightning symbol. If you do you can replace the individual segments insulation thickness with any value even those not in the original selection list.

If you want to modify the original value list, you'll have to go to the project setup. Edit the 'insulation thickness' property in the PipeLine Group and add or delete rows as you need.

What mean a lightning icon face to the property field "insulation thickness" ?

The insulation fields are greyed and the "drop down menu is not available". I wonder it's a project setup issue but i don't know how to restore it. 🤔

The lightning symbol means it is an acquired property. In other words, the value of that property is 'inherited' from another linked element.
If the value changes in the linked element, it will also change here, unless it is overridden.

For the insulation fields: the insulation properties do not belong to the individual segment. It is set for the line group, which can contain multiple segments. But that would mean we cannot consult this value in reports or the data manager when looking at individual segments, so an acquired property has been set up by default to show those values also on the segments.

Also you might not need insulation for your entire line. Once the pipe passes inside, you want to be able to override the values for each segment that deviates from the standard insulation thickness and type set at the process line (P3dLineGroup) level.

You can make your own acquisition properties, but there has to be a link on a database level between both components, and usually there is a hierarchy, you cannot acquire the same property from different sources.
