New Command to make a unique block which retains all the properties

I would like to make a unique block of my existing block to make a few changes and continue from there. Googling this gave me a solution that makes a unique block by flattening the block or using lisp files, but I loose the dynamic functions of the block

Adding this command would really increase the productivity further which the use of Dynaminc blocks provide.

Good Day and If I understand your question correctly, your dynamic block attributes will still be available after using the BEDIT command or block editor to edit your dynamic block and resave.  Explodeing and redefining would not seem like a viable solution since the dynamic associations would be lost.

BEDIT, give that a try,

Please keep me informed and keep AutoCADing your way to the future.

If I BEDIT, the existing copies would change as well. I want all the existing copies of the block to retain the previous dynamic attributes while allowing me to create a new but similar block further. SketchUp users are very familiar with this command and it is a very useful command.

then, even simpler, make a new block reference.

OLD SCHOOL VERSION:

- INSERT the old block reference

- EXPLODE

- add your new attribute information

- BLOCK or WBLOCK with the new attributes.

If you prefer the BEDIT VERSION:

- BEDIT the old block reference.

- BSAVE to a new reference name

Showing my false appearance of getting old.  Come on now, verison 2.6 and 9 were not THAT long ago..

Psssssft

But exploding the block would make it loose the dynamic properties, which might take a long time to create again and again. Same problem with BEDIT and FLATTEN commands.

Hi Gangula,

I have also appreciated this SketchUp command and wished autocad had it, too. In the meantime, I find myself using the work-around of copying my block to another drawing, renaming it, then bringing it back to the original drawing. ...Maybe this is what you're trying to not have to do.

And you are correct - bedit, explode, and flatten just don't get the job done.

The struggle is real!
