Hi, does anyone know how to copy from one drawing to another in AutoCAD mobile ?

i have content in one drawing which I want to bring into another drawing. You don’t appear to be able to copy and paste between the two.

Hello @Anonymous

Welcome to the AutoCAD Mobile Forum.

The direct function is currently not implemented. Copying is currently only possible within the same drawing:

Copy objects within the same drawingCopy objects within the same drawing

Alternative steps can be provides in Combination with AutoCAD Web App (web.autocad.com) in your browser. Please check the following steps:

  1. You want to copy objects from Drawing A to Drawing B
  2. Open Drawing A
  3. Create a block which contains the objects you want to copy
  4. Open Drawing B
  5. Click Browse for blocks
  6. Select the block you created and insert it in Drawing B
  7. Unlock your current layer in case it is needed
  8. Explode the block when you need single objects

These steps just worked on my side and I hope the provide alternative steps for you.

Thomas, many thanks this looks to be a good solution to my issue. Are you aware of a possible future update to include copy & paste from drawings A - B and also block creation ?

I note that Autodesk sketchbook copies from A - B as it is pretty fundemental action when creating similar designs

Just wondered if his was being considered ?

Hello @Anonymous

Great, I am happy to hear that it works for you 🙂

Unfortunately I am not involved in the roadmap for upcoming functionality. Furthermore it would be a tricky situation for me to make announcements or promises on the forum, based on current priorities, which might shift afterwards.

But you can always check the "AutoCAD Mobile Ideas" section to see if the topic was already mentioned. If it was, you can vote for it. If it wasn't mentioned as a new idea yet, just go ahead and post your idea 🙂

Due to this, please check for the required functionality after installing upcoming updates.

I hope you understand.

Thanks,

Thomas

Blocks don’t appear across drawing.

Not possible to copy using this technique.

this is another very fundamental shortcoming of this app!
Autocad really needs to pull their finger out if I’m going to keep the subscription!

This doesn't work for me either as blocks don't copy across drawings unless you've set up a block library and you can only do that if you have the desktop version of Autocad. Surely the ability to cut and paste into another drawing should be a basic feature? If I'm sent a drawing with a load of unnecessary info in it and want to copy a small part of the drawing into my own template what do I do? This might be a cheaper product than the desktop version but it isn't free, I wont be renewing.

Correct, this is how the mobile app on a mobile phone or Tablet works.

You'd think, but not yet.

Send it back or ask for only the part(s) you need if you do not have access to a desktop software to strip it down for you.

There are still low-cost and free desktop solutions out there

You do you 100% of the time, that's all that really matters. No arguments there. Even Autodesk's CEO will agree with that statement.

Good luck.
