Reset to defaults - Custom backup "invalid" zip file

I was having some menu problems in MEP 2017.  So I decided to "Reset to Defaults" which is an option when you install the product.  Before "resetting to defaults", it gives you the option to backup all of your custom files to a .ZIP file.  Of course, I chose to do that first.  After resetting to defaults, I tried to unzip the "custom files".  I get a message that the "file is invalid".  Why?  My operating system is Windows 7 Professional.  My menu problem has been fixed, but I'd like to get back my custom files.  I had actually backed them up in a directory called "Backup" under the Support directory (before doing the "reset to defaults").  However, that Backup directory appears to have been wiped out during the "reset to defaults".  I've never had this happen before.  Usually manually created directories are not touched.

Hi @Anonymous,

Could you try the following process to import your backed up custom settings, please?

  • START > All Programs > AutoCAD MEP 2017 > Migrate Custom Settings > Import AutoCAD MEP 2017 - English Settings
  • Choose the ZIP file that you backed up.
  • Does this import your custom settings, or do you get an error here as well?

If the ZIP file is corrupt, and the files aren't stored outside the directories that were reset to defaults, then you may not be able to recover your custom settings. Do you have another machine or location where some of your custom settings/files are stored?
