Is there s different standard for DI pipe fittings in the US than in the UK/EU?

 

For example when I measure a 90deg short radius bend in MEP (Global) Ductile Iron Pipe and Fittings for a:

 

100mm dia - the dims are 165mm as shown in snapshot and cad file attached

 

but for

 

200mm dia the dims are 260 in the standards (EN545) but measures 229 in cad.

 

Why does the Ductile Iron fittings not match the EN545 standards? Has anyone created their own library to match these standards?

 

This is interesting, I see Acad MEP Global DI Fittings are Specced from BS3601 which is for Carbon steel pipes!

 

Is this an error?

 

How could I escalate this and request a library built from the EN545 for Ductile Iron standards?

Yeah that would be great thanks.

 

I have tried to recreate the EN545 Ductile Iron libraries in MEP but found it a painstaking process to even create one part, I don't know which is worse, using the cole points etc to draw the part, or then after enter all the data and calcs. I have also downloaded an app which has the libraries, and although they are 3D parts, they don't have MEP nodes etc, so they look the part, but are not ideal to work with.

 

I should say I have also tried MEP UK aswell as MEP Global for this.

Has anyone else came across this issue?

 

What do other people in the UK and EU use in MEP to model DI Pipework accurately?

 

Do they use other software like plant 3D or FabCad or others, which has a more streamlined way of adding to and creating libraries?

 

Perhaps Revit is the way to go?

I have now created this library, for some of the most basic and commonly used parts, eg. pipe, flange, bend, tee's, reducers, etc.

I used the engagement length to offset the node to allow for gaskets between parts.

It was a painfully time consuming process, but well worth it to have an accurate library/catalogue to work from.

If Autodesk would like to include this in future releases, please contact me, But.... yes unfortunately there is usually a "but"... I can't say if or when I will get back to you 🙂

If anyone else would like this library, please contact me directly and we may come to some agreement 🙂

I've found that I've had to create a lot of my own parts since the Vanilla parts were not always dimensionally accurate. What's helped me save time was doing most of the manual data entry into excel. You can use formulas there to populate some of the tedious data.

 

The downside is that there isn't a direct import/export option between the Content Builder and Excel (that I know of, which would be very useful), but you can copy and paste each column individually into the "Size Parameters" table.
