AutoCAD MEP 2015/2016 and MEP Objects

I saw this post in regards to MEP 2008 and was wondering if anyone knows whether or not Autodesk has done anything to address it in any of the recent releases ('15 or '16). I would hope so, but I am assuming not.

"This is hopefully a very simple question. I think I know the answer. Just wanted fellow AUGI Users take on this. Do the MEP Objects (Pipe, Fittings, MV Parts, etc) respect the Cut Plane Feature? So far I think the answer is NO since I have fiddled with it and was NOT able to get ANY MEP Objects to display properly when I changed the CUT PLANE values. The Architecture Objects DO respect the cut plane and seem to work. But the MEP Objects do NOT cooperate. Any thoughts or conformation on this? Please let me know. I am using Architecture and MEP 2008. Thanks!"

If not, does anyone have a good work around for the above described situation other than moving to Revit? I am working on a multi-story Educational facility. Typically our firm would just do separate plans either laid out in model space or in entirely separate drawings, but for this project we decided to stack all of the levels in model space and use viewports, layers, & cut planes to control our views. If we are unable to control the MEP objects via cut plane or some work around of cut planes we will likely have to revert back to our old means & methods. Any thoughts? Thanks in advanced!

AutoCAD MEP has had the ability to respect the cut plane for quite a few releases.  At least 2011 i believe. However, you need to make sure that you enable display by elevation in options on the MEP Display Control tab.

Then you need to have your drawing in a plan view display representation as this is the only representation that has the ability to respect the cut plane.  Once that is done you will have some additional options available in the plan display representation.  One for each of the four zones created by the cut plane.  Below is a quick screencast i created that shows how to manipulate the object in the 4 zones.
