User Parameter, User Parameter Error

Hello Forum, Regarding AutoCAD Mechanical 2019 _ 23.0.46.0.

Abruptly, all of a sudden, I am being prompted with a "Parameter Error" message when attempting to change the value of an existing (User Parameter) in a Dynamic Block.

Explanation;

I am creating a series of dynamic Blocks. After creating the 1st in the series. every thing behaved fine as intended. I used this Block to create  a new unique block the 2nd in the series, I adjusted the (User Parameters) accordingly for this variation, so far so good, I proceeded with  creating the 3rd from the 2nd, 4th from the 3rd and the 5th from the 4th with no problems until I attempted to create the 6th from the 5th block iteration.

When it came time to adjust the Respected (User Parameters) as I have already done in the previous iterations. I out of the Blue started to receive the "Parameter Error" Message. The particular parameters I am adjusting from one block to the next are "Real" type parameters and of course drive "Dimensional Constraint Parameters".

Now I cant change the "User Parameters" when creating the Next Block in the series. Can Anyone help explain What has happened.

Hi @jamie.hernandez,

That sounds frustrating. We would be happy to help. Can you provide the following?

  • A screen shot of the specific error you are seeing.
  • The file displaying the issue and the 2 previous files.
  • Step by step instructions of what you changed the last 2 times, leading up to seeing the error. Or record a ScreenCast of your workflow.

All the best,

Hi @jamie.hernandez,

I took a look at the files and ran a few tests, but have not been able to recreate the parameter error yet. I'd be happy to take a deeper look into this once I have the steps you are taking when it occurs.

I found the culprit, it was.

After defining a subsequent block, and as stated in the discussion string above I would use it this block to create the next size increment. In doing so, for the next block size I no longer needed a particular dimensional constraint that I had defined in one of the visibility states in the prior block.

Here is what I did wrong.
Instead of transitioning the undesired dimensional constraint to a "Reference" constraint or simply deleting it. I instead defined it with zero value. in doing this, it resulted in "improperly constrained" entities. After identifying the errors of my way, I simply deleted the unnecessary dimensional constraint and voila, everything is as desired and I was able to proceed to the next size configuration.
