Will Microsoft surface book 2 Model HNL-00001 run autocad mechanical? I’m looking at a laptop for my son for college.

Q: is the school also offering more common industry software like SOLIDWORKS and INVENTOR? The future is there especially for new industry professionals.

It's OK for general use with AutoCAD/Mechanical until it chokes under heavy file loads in the next year or two when you will need to purchase something better, and your kid will hate that tiny 13.5" screen to book. AutoCAD is also not touch-screen friendly. It is slow with SOLIDWORKS and INVENTOR.

17" displays are the way to go when you upgrade him next time: ask the school for recommendations too.
