conversion from STEP to DWG

Is it possible to import STEP models into AutoCAD Mechanical 2018 to convert them to DWG format?

  Yes it is possible to Import step files to cad.

  Use Command: Import

  Change files of type to Step

  Browse your step file and click open.

I have the 2018 version and when I select Import, it does not open a box for me to navigate to my desktop to open the STEP file like it did for the earlier versions. That why I think it is not possible for this the 2018 version. I think I might need some other type of software for this. Would that be possible?

Select " File of type" as Stp or Step.

That sounds frustrating! It is possible one of your system variables got changed. Try typing FILEDIA, and change the value to 1. This variable determines whether dialog boxes are shown (1) or if the information is shown in the command line (0).

Hello,

Import will not show you the STP or STEP file extensions for importing the files.

The only way to import a Step file in AutoCAD Mechanical 2018 is to use the command STEPIN. You can use the STEPOUT command to convert the dwg into a .stp or .step file format.

Hi, do you use multiple monitors? It could be that the window is "off" screen. If that is the case, select import and then use "alt" and "space" and then "m" for move. With the arrow keys your can then try to get the window back on your screen.
