AutoCAD Mechanical 2018 - Table Format Automatically Changing No Matter What

I don't think this is a new issue with the 2018 release, however I've recently upgraded and didn't notice this problem with 2016.  I have, however, always been wary of the user-unfriendly table feature in AutoCAD through the years.

It's not a special table, I don't have any specific styles set up, I just used this in a new .dwg file, no template - metric. This is what happens:

  • I set my column format to "Text" and lock the format.  This allows me one shot and one shot only at getting the data correct.
  • I enter my desired data "2, 4, 6" and it shows exactly like that.
  • If I clear this cell and then type in "4, 6, 8" it changes my (locked) format to "Point" and now my cell shows "4.00, 6.00, 8.00".
  • I then have to unlock the cells, format them as "Text" and lock again.
  • I type over "4.00, 6.00, 8.00" as "4, 6, 8" and it now looks fine
  • The process repeats if I decide to change anything else

Why does a basic feature such as table still have flaws like this?

Can anyone else replicate this issue?

What text style is assigned to that cell in that table?
And is that, in STYLE command, set to a font you want to actually use?

How are you "clearing the cell"? Are you sure you are doing more than just deleting the content?

Hi pendean,

Text style is "STANDARD" and I just click a cell or highlight some cells and press the "DELETE" button.

It seems deleting the data removes the formatting, even when locked.

What font is defined in STANDARD? Is that the font you want to use?
Did you look in the TABLESTYLE settings to confirm the cells are set to "standard" text styles?

Hi Pendean,

The "STANDARD" text style uses "isocp.shx".

I don't mind the font at all, it's the fact it's adding two decimal places to my numbers.

The settings in TABLESTYLE have the text set to "General".  So I can't understand why it would automatically change that to "Point".
