Trouble linking north arrow to view port

I am setting up templates and when I save them off to use later my north arrow disconnects from the viewport. It wont let me even delete it and make a new one which links. Does anyone know how to fix this.

thanks!

Hi @cpeterson4G22Z,
Can you post one of the problem templates? What version of Map 3D are you running? All updates?

@Pointdump ,

I am running Map 3D 2023 all updates

When I delete the north arrow and create a new one it wont link to the viewport. Once in a blue moon I can get it to link.

Thanks

@cpeterson4G22Z,
Thanks for posting your DWT.
Have you tried assigning a coordinate system to your template? You might need a template for each coordinate system you use.
Just now I assigned an AZ83-CIF coordinate system and added/deleted different north arrows 4 times without problem.

I creating a template for every zone isn't a very viable option for me. I still cant get the north arrow to link even if i bring in a new one. I think I am doing something wrong.

Thanks

You cannot COPY a north arrow from one template (or drawing) and paste it to another. A specific north arrow is 'linked' to a specific viewport.

You can't PASTE one north arrow to another dwg file or to a different viewport. Only one north arrow can be linked to one VP. If you want to link a new arrow to a VP, the old arrow must be deleted first.

You can, however, link a north arrow to a specific VP and save the work as a template with dwt extension. When you open this dwt, save it as a dwg with a new name in your project folder. This new dwg will maintain the link between the north arrow and VP.

Hi @cpeterson4G22Z ,

When a viewport is linked to an arrow, you have a new reactor added to viewport (handle of arrow). In your case, your viewport has this type of reactor but it is linked to really "nothing" (handle to a broken dictionnary). Audit can't correct this error.

So I export to DXF, remove reactor and broken dictionnary. Reopen DXF and AUDIT to clean dwg structure.

So is there any way to prevent this from happening when setting up my templates, or will I have to do this every time.

@cpeterson4G22Z ,

I don't know how such a mistake could have happened.

So I don't know if it's reproducible or not, or if a false manipulation could be the cause.
