Tracing a map in AutoCAD

Hi Everyone,

I am working on a project where I am tracing a large map of a lake that includes a lot of complex shorelines and islands. I am looking for a second opinion on the best way to do this.

I am currently image tracing small parts of the map in Illustrator and exporting them to CAD. This is slow and tedious, but much better than when I started by just tracing everything with splines https://vlc.onl/ .

Is there something I am missing that would make this easier and faster? Has anyone used AutoCAD raster design? I have never been successful with it, but it may be my best bet.

Thanks for the help.

search for LIDAR data of the area.  The lake being flat will have an elevation at the shoreline which might be used to get  lines you need.

If there is a georeferenced ortho photo available you could draw the shorelines by hand

What data can you share?  The location of the lake, country, state, province, etc?
