Try SDI = 1

Murph,

Can you elaborate on "SDI". I've not heard of that one. Is it a System Variable? I can't find it.

Yes it is a system variable, ask any old Land Desktop user. 🙂 Single Document Interface ?

Murph,

SDI isn't in my 2018 System Variables, and it isn't a recognizable command. Are you sure that Autodesk didn't abandon it in Land Desktop?

How are you opening a new dwg file exactly?

Dave,

It's not listed in the Express tool sym var, but works if you type SDI at the command line. At least it did in my version of 2018 Civil3D and Map3D. Very little info in the help files on it.

SDI = 0   The tabs show at the top of the map workspace.

open windows explorer, drag the wanted file to the tab with the + sign on it.  go to work.

Hi Dave P,

"...drag the wanted file to the tab with the + sign on it."

I didn't know you could do that. Thanks, I learned something new.
