Invalid point error when creating a new gis feature line

I have started using the dynamic input option with Map 3D 2016 and found that often when I select a certain gis layer and then rt click "create new feature line", the  input box at the cursor lists the error message, "Invalid Point  Specify a point".  If I continue and specify a point in my map, it creates a zero length line which can not be selected or deleted.  I have found that if I stop when I see this error message and click esc and then click "create new line feature" again, it usually does not show the "invalid Point" message.  This problem can occur every 10 or 20 new lines created.

I have been have this problem with zero length lines since version 2015.  In the past I have used the Mapimport and Mapexport commands to clean the shape file.  Lately the mapexport command has failed to function and all I get is a prj file.  This export problem is with other shape files as well as the one line file.

The shape file has 4300 features in it.   The database file is 7500 Kb.
