Import GeoTiff or DTM into DWG

Hello, Im new to CAD MAP 3D.

So, I worry about my serious project.

I going to buy some area of GeoTiff format from satellite image service.

The satellite service said me DTM(digital Terrain model) is GeoTiff.

I don't know that DTM has another format that it can import to CAD different with GeoTiff.

If I import GeoTiff into DWG, Can I want to make 3D modeling the area that I want?.

I going to use the 3D modeling to lighting design.

However, I can not sure that I should buy GeoTiff, Because the format is very expensive, So I can not choice it.

Happy new year!.

Hi,

wellcome to the Forum.

What do you mean, when you say "making 3D modeling"?

If you mean working with §D modelling like AutoCAD it will work.

But I think you mean creating and modelling a DGM.

When you think about the last Point, then please recognize, that Map 3D can only show DEM defined DGMs (rastered definition points)

Normally you must have for working fine with DGM aonother program also inside the old suites and new Collections - AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Hope you have Access to AutoCAD Civil 3D. You can try it as a 30-days-trial.

Thanks, your answer!.

The 3D modeling means If I get DTM or GeoTiff, I must convert it into mesh in DWG, and then I will work for lighting design.

All I want to know is that can I make 3D modeling by using DTM or GeoTiff format.

I think the DGM that you said, I can not understand what is mean.

Thanks.

I fear you won't do that in Autocad Map, sir.
As far as I know, there's at least 3 free ways to achieve your goal, but it depends on the kind of your Dem.
May we get a sample of those files?

Hi,

Not with Map3D, you'll need Civil3D therefor (to create real geometry like 3D-Faces from a DEM).

Check with the GIS websites of your local, regional government.  You should find a lot of data available, some of it recent and high qualify.  Paid for by your tax dollars.
