Import ArcGis Tile Layer Raster

Import ArcGis Tile Layer Raster

Anonymous
Not applicable

I have access to tile layer rasters through an ArcGIS Online (AGOL) account. This data is not publicly available and I do not have control of the data.

I can connect to my account via the maparcgisconnector command and can see the layers, but I cannot import them into CAD. Does anyone have any ideas if this is possible through another method or if this will become a feature at some point? I'm running AutoCad and Carlson 2020.

Emily,
Welcome to the Autodesk Forums.
"...I cannot import them into CAD."
Because they are rasters, all you can do is look at them. Or are you having problems even viewing them?

I can't even look at them. To be clear, I don't want to do any manipulation of the images. I just want to use them as a base map underneath existing georeferenced autocad layers.

You're talking about the Living Atlas and all that other good stuff you see when you click on the 'Add Data' dropdown on the ribbon, correct?

AFAIK those layers are not downloadable. And they're not printable either. I understand it, you're having an issue viewing them. You can try establishing your coordinate system using the far left icon on ArcGIS tab of the ribbon. This is in aadition to assigning an AutoCAD CS via MAPCSASSIGN.

ArcGIS, for some bizarre reason, doesn't accept the CS you've already assigned to modelelspace, ESRI wants the coordinate system set from his button, the Autodesk button. Once you've chosen your map connection, and depeinding on your connection (whether ArcGIS online or an Enterprise connection) there are many to choose from. You'll also need to close the 'Living Atlas' window or the 'catalog' with all the Living Atlas stuff, otherwise the background imagery won't appear.

Thanks for the response.

Its not a living atlas raster, its just a regular user-uploaded raster in the form of a tile layer. Here's a screenshot from the maparcgisconnector command showing the problem.

Please expand your screenshot to include 'ESRI Contents' palette.

Go to ArcGIS tab=>Contents Panel=>Contents Button=>Expand the 'Map and Imagery Layer' in the contents palette

Take a screen shot of the expanded layers.

Are you signed in? What is displayed when you click this drop-down arrow?

ArcGIS connector also want s you to 'sign-in' using their Coordinate System button. (Go to ArcGIS tab=>Project Panel=>Coordinate system button). This button must be used in addition to establishing AutoCAD's coordinate system function.

Thanks for the reply and the screen shots. I can't find that menu that you show, but I may have answered my own question.

According to this line of questions, tile layers from ArcGIS online are not supported. Does anyone know if this is going to change in future releases?

I am able to add vector layers from the same account so this might confirm that tile layers are not supported.

If you can't find 'the menu' then I suspect that's your problem, not whether it's supported or not supported. You need to upload more screen shots for thorough troubleshooting. Base on the images you've provided (and you haven't uploaded too many) your issue is entirely on your end and not related to whether AutoCAD supports or doesn't support tiled images.

I'm also having this issue - all vector (feature) layers can be added, but the tiled services cannot.

By the way, I'm a GISer by trade, so I'm far more familiar with Esri/GIS than AutoDesk. But this does seem like a limitation in AutoDesk, which would be incredibly useful to address.

Just so your specific issue is clear, how are you adding the vectors? What process (or command) in AutoCAD are you using the add the feature class?

I have several services published from ArcGIS Pro to ArcGIS Online. All services have been published by me to our Organization's AGOL portal. The feature services can all be added to Map 3D via the AutoDesk Connector for ArcGIS, but all tile services are greyed out and cannot be added.

Coordinate system is defined. feature and tiled services are all referenced to the same system.
