<<,,,apparently its included in AUTOCAD as a toolset...>>
So you are running plain vanilla AutoCAD. Did you download and install the Map3D >>Toolset?<<

Alternatively, you may download the Student version of AutoCAD Civil 3D >>HERE<<. Then scroll down to Civil 3D (Refer to image below.) If you are currently enrolled at a qualifying education institution you can download the student version using a valid student email address.

Then, after installation has been completed, open C3D and change the workspace from Civil3D to Planning and Analysis. This workspace has all the Map3D tools so your Ribbon will be consistent with the Ribbon shown in your text book.
How It Works
First there's plain vanilla AutoCAD. Then there's Map3D which is built on top of AutoCAD plain vanilla. Next, there's Civil3D which is built on top of Map3D.
M3D contains not only Map3D tools, it includes plain vanilla tools too.
C3D contains not only Civil3D tools, it includes Map3D tools too.
Git 'ER Done
I don't think there's a 'student version' of Map3D. There is, however, a downloadable student version of Civil3D. If your goal is to complete your assignments using Map3D, I'd suggest you download the Educational version of Civil3D and forget, really forget, all that mumbo jumbo stuff regarding Map3D-Toolset-for-plain-vanilla-Acad.
