Features from mdb?

Good morning all,

I'm operating a little outside of my wheelhouse. I'm a civil designer looking to make good use of available GIS data on which i can develop concept plans.

Can i draw the feature geometry defined in an mdb file?  How?

My county in NJ sent me links to downloadable mdb files for several municipalities (including parcels, utilities, etc).  I can drag and drop the mdb into the task pane and connect to it. But it's limited to tabular data. I want the geometry mapped/drawn. Is this possible? Do i need to request additional files from the county?  I've scoured youtube and these boards, but i think maybe I'm using wrong search criteria, terminology, etc.

Do any of you a minute to set me straight on this? I'm not a G I S professional, but I can pick things up pretty quick with a little hand-holding.

Any help would be much-appreciated!

Using map3d 2017

Mike

You got Esri Personal Geodatabse(MDB) then you may need to use OGR provider.

But are you sure you have .mdb which have geometry fields?

I think this link can help you:

Hi @Mlardi,

you can connect to Geometry from MDB for Point data - having column for x /y.

This is possible with ODBC connection via FDO or attaching the MDB in Map Explorer.

odbc mdb.PNG

For lines in general it is necessary to have the AutoCAD application who stored the objects in MDB.

Having ESRI Geodatabase the connection can also be done with the FDO ArcGIS provider, but there is ESRI license needed.

Can you provide sample MDB?

Kind regards

Brigitte

Thank you both for getting back to me.  I was furnished with links to two mdb files for each municipality.  Here is a pair of mdb links for one municipality:

Hi @Mlardi,

from my knowledge this data are a GDB and we can use the ArcGIS FDO Provider to connect and style in AutoCAD Map 3D.

To use the ArcGIS FDO Provider a license of ESRI is necessary, therefore I can't test it for you.

At the moment I see only the possibility to try with the open source Provider for OGR like @kajar mentioned.

Other idea is to have a look to the Cad and GIS data provided from Gloucester County if the data you need are available:

Hope you find what is needed.

If you check the file properties, type of file is Microsoft Access Database (mdb), not esri gdb.

open the tables using access or excel and export the data to csv and mapimport is one method to get the data into the map.

the other is linking to the database with obdc connection depending on the file types and versions of software you have.

The Wenonah file is an esri Personal Geodatabase and can be attached using the ArcGIS FDO Provider, but you do need the esri libraries to do this. I've converted it to SDF for you. The other MDB is simply an Access tables database. There are addresses on some of the data which you could attempt to geocode, but there really isn't much to go on for spatial information in it that I can see.

Thanks to you all for your help. And gary thanks for the conversion.

It doesn't look this data will be super useful w/o ArcGIS. Thanks again!

You should have ready access to both the geometry and attributes in the SDF either via FDO or by using MAPIMPORT to bring them in as Autocad entities. Of course the usefulness of that is dependent upon what you're trying to do with it afterwards.

Good Luck.
